Here’s our story and how it all started.
Village Insurance was established in 1950.
Village Insurance was first known as Ray Alton Insurance located on 7th Street and Wooster Avenue in Strasburg. Alton specialized in life insurance and was locally recognized by his slogan “tuck a buck a day away”. Later, the agency was sold to Larry Watts who renamed the agency “Village Insurance” and moved it across town in 1977 to North Wooster Avenue where the business is still operating today.
After years of working within the business, the agency went through another transition.
Elaine Shelt purchased the agency next. And, yet another transition followed in 2000 when brother and sister Tod Bonifant and Jody Troyer, who had worked in the agency since 1985 acquired the business. They worked diligently to grow the local business and in 2015 pursued the acquisition of Handrich’s Insurance Agency out of Zoarville, Ohio. The two established a presence in the town of Strasburg, offering home, auto, small business and farm insurance. Our agency purchased Village Insurance from Tod and Jody in January 2022, marking the opening of our third location!
